Randy: We’re back here again with Ted Thomas, America’s Tax Lien and Tax Deed Authority. Ted, let’s answer another question that was posted on your social media account at one of your channels about the National Tax Lien Association, which is sometimes referred to as the NTLA. The question was, “Is the National Tax Lien Association a tax lien buyers’ club?”
Ted: Okay, I don’t think the National Tax Lien Association is a club. I think they’re an association that wants to call themselves educational, and they want to be the authority. I think they’re trying to sell courses so people can learn how to get a license to do this, but there’s no license required to buy tax liens or tax deeds.
Randy: Okay, so sounds a little bogus, I guess. But if the National Tax Lien Association is not indeed a buyer’s club, are there tax lien investment companies that somebody can invest with?
Ted: Oh, my goodness! Oh, all right, I get it. Well, there are all kinds of people that try to figure out a way to do things and not do any work. If you’re just learning about tax liens and deeds and thinking about having someone else do it for you, I’m going to tell you that’s a mistake. Why is that a mistake? Because this business was invented 200 years ago, and it was invented simply for the people who couldn’t read and write. All of you can read and write. I know that.
Ted (cont’d): My point is, tax lien certificates, in my opinion, are the safest and most lucrative investment in America if you’ll just do two or three things right. I’ll give you those right now. First of all, a tax lien certificate is not sold by me. You can’t buy them from me, so don’t buy them from anybody else either. Buy them directly from the government. You just invest with the government and get a check back from the government. We teach people how to do that.
Ted (cont’d): We’re going to teach you to fish, so you can do this forever. If you want to buy it from somebody else, how do you know what you’re buying? More than likely, they don’t know what they’re buying either. I don’t know what other people do, but I can teach you how to buy tax liens and demonstrate it. Also, I can show you plenty of clients doing it. It’s that simple.
Ted (cont’d): Here’s what you don’t know, so you’ll know it right now. When they list the tax lien certificates online or on a physical list, you can go look and see what you’re buying. You wouldn’t marry a woman if you didn’t see her. So why would you buy a tax lien certificate? What if it’s in a ghetto? What people do is buy them in the ghetto, and then people that don’t know what they’re doing buy them from somebody else.
Ted (cont’d): I don’t know whether this other company is a club or what they are, but I can tell you, this is the easiest business in the world. It’s 200 years old. Buy them from the government. Give your money to the government. You’ll get your money back from the government. However, check out what you’re buying. That’s what you need to know.
Randy: Well, there’s another question they need to know because this came from one of your channels too, and the question was, “Do I need to be a Certified Tax Lien Professional to invest in tax liens?” In other words, do I need a license to do this?
Ted: A license to do this? There’s no license. As a matter of fact, you’re a professional right now. If you just watched two of my videos, you’d be as professional as anybody else. I’ve got all kinds of videos to tell you how to buy tax liens and deeds. Just go choose one of them. You can do it that easily. You don’t want to be doing this with anybody else. Why?
Ted (cont’d): Why would someone sell you a good, valuable, tax lien certificate? Why would they sell that to you? I don’t resell anything. If you come to one of my seminars, I’ll give you an education. You can’t buy a property from me. I do my own property, sell my own property. I do the business. People who are selling you property, why are they selling you property?
Ted (cont’d): Why don’t you go make those profits? Why are you buying a tax lien certificate from someone else? That would be insanity. You want to buy it directly from the government. They won’t allow anybody to make a commission. These people buying tax deeds, I don’t know what they bought. 90% of the people at the auction don’t know what they bought.
Randy: Well, Ted, I think I’m starting to get it here. I don’t have any need to go to Tax Lien University, and I really don’t have to join the National Tax Lien Association either.
Ted: I mean, these guys come up with all these titles to these things. I’m not going to sit here and criticize anybody else. What good does that do me? Here’s what I’m going to tell you. If you want to learn how to do tax liens and deeds, I’ll be happy to teach you how to do that, okay? Yes, we have courses that we charge a few pennies for, but it’s a way to make living. For the rest of your life, you can be involved in a business where you invest with the government and you get checks back from the government.
Ted (cont’d): Shouldn’t you learn how to do that on your own rather than ask someone else to do it for you? Why would that someone else sell their tax lien if it’s so good? Why would they sell you properties? You could have gone and made those profits. Nothing wrong with that, okay?
Ted (cont’d): The government sells these in 3,000 counties. They’re selling tax defaulted property. 1,500 counties are selling tax lien certificates. Why do you need to go to a university or an academy or whatever the heck they want to call themselves? These people are just going to take your money.
Randy: Well, it’s kind of funny, Ted. I was just curious what people thought about the NTLA, so I googled National Tax Lien Association reviews. According to the reviews I read, they are not the National Tax Lien Association. They’re just one of your competitors trying to appear like they’re something they’re not. I also looked up US Tax Lien Association reviews and Tax Lien Code reviews.
Ted: Randy, I can tell you it’s worse than that. I have newsletters that go out to my clients. I have people that take my newsletter and copy it even though it has my name and picture on it, and they send it out to people. There are so many copycats out there.
Ted (cont’d): This is a box of tax lien certificate books. There are going to be 13 books in here. I ordered all of them. You could have ordered the same thing online. None of these people ever bought a tax lien or deed. None of these books that I’m showing you are 30 days old. These books were printed the day before I bought them.
Ted (cont’d): I’ll tell you more about these different competitors in the future. I’m not here to knock the competitors. But whom do you want to learn from? Someone that’s doing it like we do or someone that’s teaching it or someone that’s writing a book because they’re copying what we’re doing?
Randy: Well, I know with your training and such, it’s not just a book. You’ve got some daily guidance, live training and training you can view on the internet. You have coaches and tours.
Ted: We take people to the auction. We actually take them.
Randy: Absolutely. You do plenty. Your website isn’t called something like America’s Tax Lien Association Expert, is it? What is your website? How do people learn from you, Ted?
Ted: It’s called tedthomas.com, and you can go there. You can come to a virtual seminar that lasts six hours and not just see me, but see people actually doing it. I’m going to end this by showing you a video of just my facilitators. These are people that help you, and I’m just going to go from one to the other to the other. You’ll see four or five people just helping people out, taking phone calls all day long. We don’t even charge you for that if you’re a client.
Ted (cont’d): We’re in the business of teaching. We don’t sell you stuff. We sell you education. That’s all we do. We buy tax liens and deeds ourselves for our own account, but we don’t sell them.
